Planned midnight dacoity in Tirupati-Guntur express train near Kadapa baffles passengers

TIRUPATI: The passengers on-board the Tirupati-Guntur express train were baffled with a planned midnight dacoity executed to perfection by a gang of 20-20 armed assailants in the Tirupati-Guntur express train near Kadapa in the late hours on Friday.

The Tirupati-Guntur express train supposed to depart from the temple city at 7.30 pm departed an hour late on Friday.

The gang of 20-25 men unleashed themselves on the passengers all of a sudden, when the train just crossed the Kamalapuram junction near Kadapa at around 11-11.30 pm.

The dacoits halted the moving train near a cement factory and began their loot. They ran from S-1 to S-6 bogies, targeting women wearing jewelry in particular and snatched away as much jewelry as they could.

The gang of thieves assaulted a few who tried to revolt and continued with their loot.

The scared passengers and victims lodged a complaint after the train reached Proddatur later.

Regular travellers along this route told the police that they suspected the dacoity to be the handiwork of seasoned criminals who were well aware that there would be minimum security in the train between Tirupati-Kadapa.

Railway police registered a case and began their investigation into the dacoity reported in the Tirupati-Guntur express train on Friday.
