Plane with 'Glazers Out' banner flies over Old Trafford before Manchester United vs Chelsea

A plane flew over Old Trafford carrying a banner which read #GlazersOut prior to Manchester United's opening Premier League fixture against Chelsea.

Fans have been protesting against the Glazers, United's owners, on social media throughout the summer due to what they feel is mismanagement of the club when it comes to football matters and the financial state of the club.

A group called the Glazers Out Movement penned a letter to the Glazer family in late July, which posed questions to the owners that some fans want answering.

They included: What are your plans to clear the debt in a suitable, realistic timeframe? On what basis was Ed Woodward given a pay rise? And has there been any progress in the search for a Director of Football?

Some fans reacted angrily on Thursday after the summer transfer window closed.

United had spent big in the summer to bring Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire to the club but some fans were frustrated that other key areas of the pitch weren't strengthened, fringe players weren't sold and Romelu Lukaku was allowed to leave without a replacement coming in.

The protests have resulted in the plane flying above Old Trafford before kick-off with the banner.
