Plane travels for 14 hours with hole in side of aircraft after 'bang' heard on take-off

Passengers on a flight from Dubai to Australia received a scare when their plane completed the 14-hour journey with a hole in the side of it.

The Emirates Airbus A380 made a loud noise after take-off but the pilots reported that they thought a tyre had blown.

However, they received a surprise when they landed in Brisbane.

Passengers had reported hearing a loud bang while they were flying over the ocean on the way to Australia.

However, the airline made the decision to press on with the remaining 13-and-a-half hour flight.

Once the flight was back on solid ground, a mysterious hole was found in the side of the aircraft.

Emergency services were on standby when the flight came into land.

“There was a loud bang and I felt it through the floor as well,” one passenger told the Daily Mail, speaking with The Courier Mail in Australia. "The cabin crew remained calm, stopped the food service and got on the phone and checked the wings, engines."

There were no injuries reported and passengers did not have to be evacuated as the aircraft landed safely.

Andrew Morris, who on Twitter says he is a professor of human factors at Loughborough University, said: “Was absolutely terrifying at first and the cabin crew knew something serious may have happened - were immediately in contact with the cockpit.

“Shortly after, they resumed as normal. Their calm demeanour was reassuring - they knew it was not catastrophic.”

The aircraft did not make its return flight as crew continued to work on it in Brisbane.

“I guess the pilots figured it was just a flesh wound, and continued on the 14 hour flight,” said another Twitter user.
