Plane spotted flying touching banner tribute over Merseyside

People were left wondering why a banner was flying in the sky above Merseyside after they spotted it this week.

Dozens of residents from St Helens took to Facebook on Thursday to question what the message was behind the banner.

It is believed to be a tribute to a man called Alan Connolly, who was in the Royal Marines.

Photos taken appear to show a message on the banner which reads: "Alan Connolly Marine 9430 Our Hero."

People reported seeing it in St Helens and as far as Stockton Heath in Warrington.

One man said: "Lovely tribute."

While another said: "Respect to that man."

One woman wrote: "Lovely to see this."

While another said: "Who is Alan Connolly."
