Plane forced to return to Scots airport after mid-air emergency declared

A plane has been forced to return to a Scots airport after a mid-air emergency.

The Loganair flight to Norwich was turned around and sent back to Aberdeen Airport after setting off earlier on Tuesday afternoon.

The aircraft left Aberdeen at 2.25pm and was supposed to arrive at Norwich Airport at 3.40pm.

The plane was carrying 27 passengers and three crew, and was flying south over the North Sea when it came back north and returned to Aberdeen to be met by emergency services at the transport hub.

It is unclear at this time the nature of the emergency.

An Aberdeen Airport spokesman confirmed the plane touched down before 3.30pm.

A spokesperson for Loganair said: “Following an alert on flight LM016 from Aberdeen to Norwich earlier today, the crew elected to return to Aberdeen Airport where the aircraft landed safely and normally.

"As is routine for such circumstances, emergency services were on standby to meet the aircraft on landing, however no action or intervention was required.

"All 27 passengers and three crew members disembarked the aircraft as normal and will continue their journey aboard a replacement aircraft.

“Safety as always is our top priority and we are grateful to Aberdeen Airport for its support and assistance.”
