Plane engine filmed shaking in the wind, prompting FAA investigation

The United flight circled Denver before landing ( Flight Aware )

The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) is investigating how part of a plane engine came loose during a flight in the US.

Footage captured onboard a United Airlines flight showed the plane engine shaking in the wind.

The incident happened on United Airlines flight 293, which was flying from Denver, Colorado, to Orlando, Florida.

Video shared on social media by a passenger shows the plane engine on one of the wings bouncing up and down shortly after take-off.

An FAA spokesman said that the plane had an issue with an engine panel, reported Associated Press.

A United Airlines spokesperson confirmed that the plane landed safely and that nobody was injured.

They said: “United flight 293 from Denver to Orlando returned to the airport due to a mechanical issue with one of the engines.

“The flight landed safely and taxied to a gate where customers deplaned normally. Customers have departed on a different aircraft to Orlando.”

Flight tracking data from Flight Aware shows that the plane circled around Denver before landing 50 minutes later.

Last week, a Qantas flight had to turn back not long after departure when passengers spotted one of the propellers had slowed to a halt mid-air

The regional service from Cairns to Townsville in Australia had to return to Cairns around 20 minutes in due to an “engine issue”.

“We just noticed that [the propeller] started slowing even further, and then obviously the cockpit staff, I believe, must have shut the engine down,” passenger Rodney Hyman told The New Daily.
