Plane engine 'bursts into flames' after loud bang heard during landing at East Midlands Airport

A Boeing 747 caught fire following a failed landing at East Midlands Airport.

The planes tyres burst into flames on the evening of Thursday, September 30, after departing from Leipzig in Germany.

Shocking images show the wheels of the large aircraft burn up after it hit the ground.

A witness to the incident stated that the plane appeared to ingest something' as it landed. Nobody is believed to have been injured. the images appear to show an engine on fire.

The witness also said they heard a loud bang once the aircraft had touched down.

The incident has come after another incident earlier in the week in which three passengers of a plane had to be rushed to hospital.

A pilot and two passengers were treated after an aircraft at Teesside Airport experienced issues during take-off.

One of the trio had to be airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
