Plane delayed at Manchester Airport after passenger claims the wing 'clipped a fence'

A passenger has claimed a plane was delayed at Manchester Airport on Saturday morning after its wing 'hit a fence'.

The Palma-bound TUI flight reportedly clipped a fence while pushing back from the gate at around 7.15am this morning.

Passengers from the flight, TOM2668, were disembarked and sent back to the terminal with food vouchers.

They were told to expect a delay of about three hours while work was carried out on the plane.

The airline has apologised for a 'technical issue' with the flight, which eventually departed before midday - but has not confirmed that the wing clipped a fence.

Simon Finnegan was travelling on the plane and says passengers 'heard a crunch' as it started to move from the gate.

He says engineers were removing the lower winglets from the plane, following the bump.

He said: "There was a bit of a crunching noise, we just looked at each other and thought 'that's not promising'

"If it happened to your car you'd be expecting a big bill."

A TUI spokeswoman said: "We would like to apologise to customers for the delay on flight TOM2668 from Manchester to Palma this morning.

"This was due to a technical issue and the flight has now departed.

"We understand delays are frustrating for customers and thank them for their patience and understanding.”
