Plane declares emergency after taking off from East Midlands Airport

A cargo aircraft declared an emergency en route from East Midlands Airport in the early hours of the morning.

Bluebird Nordic TF-BBL (B734F) declared a Squawk 7700 emergency on Monday, August 10, which means the crew determined they had an 'urgent'  or 'distress' situation.

It was en route from East Midlands Airport to Keflavík.

East Midlands Airport said the aircraft reported 'a technical issue' and the pilot requested a return to the airport.

A spokesman for East Midlands Airport said: "Shortly after take-off, a cargo aircraft bound for Keflavik in the early hours of this morning (Mon 10 August) developed a technical issue and requested a return to East Midlands Airport (EMA).

"The aircraft was put into a holding pattern while attempts were made to resolve the issue before landing safely."
