Plane almost runs out of runway during take-off in Moscow

A Russian aircraft nearly overshot the runway while taking off from Moscow.

Commercial airline S7 was operating the Boeing 737-800, which was captured on video hurtling down the runway.

CCTV footage from the airport shows the plane hitting the end of the strip and kicking up dust before managing to take-off from Domodedovo, 22km south-east of the Russian capital.

There were 150 passengers and crew on board Monday’s flight.

The service landed as planned at Simferopol airport in the Crimea, but the jet has since been taken out of service.

The botched take-off caused damage to the aircraft chassis, as well as damaging lighting units at the airport, reports Russia Today.

The safety of Russian airlines was called into question recently after several high profile incidents.

In May 2019 an Aeroflot flight took off from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport before having to make an emergency landing back in Moscow 30 minutes later.

Video footage shows the aircraft landing at high speed and bouncing before the tail bursts into flame. Forty-one people died on board flight SU1492.

According to respected aviation safety website Airsafe.com, the only European region that has suffered more than 40 losses since 1990 is the former Soviet Union.

One of the leading causes of fatal accidents appears to be severe weather – the Russian climate is more extreme than that of any other nation.
