MUZAFFARNAGAR: The family of a 25-year-old army personnel from UP’s Sisauli town in Muzaffarnagar is drowned in despair as the jawan, who was taking part in kanwar yatra, was killed as two groups of kanwarias clashed near Roorkee in Uttarakhand on Tuesday. Kartik Chaudhary, a jawan commissioned in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME), succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, said officials.
He was posted at Jamnagar in Gujarat and was on leave to participate in kanwar yatra. "Kartik participated in kanwar yatra in 2019 and it is mandatory to take part a second time also if one has done it once. So, he wanted to fulfil this promise,” said Mukul Chaudhary, Kartik’s younger brother. "We were looking for a bride for him. The plan was to get him married this winter,” added Mukul.
According to police, Kartik was attacked with batons and iron rods by the kanwarias from Haryana as he drove past them.
Six Haryana-based suspects were arrested in connection with the incident and booked under different sections of the IPC, said police officials. The accused fled the spot but were captured in the Chhapar area of Muzaffarnagar.
