Plan to get Sunshine on Leith 'blasting' across parts of Edinburgh tonight

Thoughtful Leithers are planning to "blast" Sunshine of Leith from windows and balconies in a tribute to workers who are going above and beyond amid the coronavirus outbreak.

People are being asked to join the campaign, which will see The Proclaimers' famous track played in unison across parts of the city at exactly 8pm tonight.

Hundreds of people have expressed interest in the social media campaign which was started this morning.

The 'Leith and Edinburgh Sings Sunshine on Leith' event page states: "Let's get Sunshine on Leith blasting from every window and balcony on every street, stair and tenement.

"A tribute and big thank you to all hospital, supermarket, transport and care workers and their efforts.

"Followed by safe street and stair meetings to organise committees to help our elderly and vulnerable neighbours.

"A group on every street and in every stair.

"We can do this!"

The anthem, which was released in the 1980s, is regularly belted out at Easter Road by Hibs fans – however all are invited to get involved tonight.

Will you be joining in tonight's effort? You can send in any footage to news@edinburghlive.co.uk and we'll feature it on the website.
