Plan to get homeless pensioner a hotel room for Christmas and how you can help

A homeless pensioner from Liverpool is set to get a Christmas treat by being put up in a hotel over the festive period.

The rough sleeper - who has been living on the streets of Liverpool for years - will also get a Christmas dinner and some presents.

The treat is being organised by the Liverpool-based charity The Paper Cup Project, which carries out outreach work with rough sleepers around the city.

Meet the woman trying to keep homeless people alive

Founder Michelle Langan explained: "Each Christmas we pay for one of our homeless friends to stay over the Christmas period in a hotel, so that he can enjoy warmth, a Christmas dinner and some treats.

"He is a pensioner, and very private, so this is the best way for us to do it. He can enjoy Christmas in his own way, read his books, have a bath and some peace.

"We are collecting this year to ask if anyone wants to contribute.

"As well as his stay we also cover his meals and drinks, so he can be as free as he likes, and some new clothes and presents."

The charity are asking for contributions to help make the older man's Christmas stay as pleasant as possible - and to help them continue to carry out their vital work with some of the city's most vulnerable people.
