Plan announced to transform closed Arnold cafe into new bar and bistro

A short-lived Nottinghamshire coffee house could be turned into a new bar and bistro. Revival Coffee Co in Front Street, Arnold, closed its doors after just seven months in business and could be replaced by a new bar and bistro, if fresh plans are approved by Gedling Borough Council.

Revival Coffee Co, which had traded from the revamped former branch of Santander bank on the town's high street, opened in April and closed in November last year. If the new plans are passed, the interior of the former café would be extensively renovated, with the kitchen and bar rearranged and seating areas set up on the ground and first floor.

The new bar would be named 'Sully's Bistro', seemingly after applicant Suleyman Basar. In a planning document, planning agent BB Design and Technology, on behalf of Mr Basar, said: "We are converting this two-storey café to a bar and bistro. The existing plan layout will be changed and the proposed plan layouts will be attached to the application."

Previously the owner of Revival Coffee Co, Kate Norton, said she was "heartbroken" by the closure. She explained that despite steady trade, the amount of custom was not enough to sustain the business.

The dog-friendly café was known for its boozy bottomless brunches, decadent frappes and naughty sweet treats. In a statement announcing its closure, owner Kate said: "[I] am heartbroken having to write this post, but I think given the current financial climate you probably have a good idea what [I] am about to say.

"We’ve tried really hard to fight the rising costs, bills and cost of living crisis but as a small independent we have no choice but to close our doors. We’ve really loved having you." The planning application is pending consideration by Gedling Borough Council.
