Residents of Plainfield no longer had to boil their tap water, officials said Monday evening, after testing found no traces of the bacteria that spurred the cautionary measure last week.
“Normal water use may resume now that the boil order has been lifted,” read a message posted to Plainfield’s website Monday at 7:45 p.m.
The boil order was lifted after 40 water samples were collected on Saturday and Sunday and all came back with no signs of Coliform or E. coli bacteria.
The boil order had been in place since Friday, when results of routine testing on water samples collected Wednesday showed the presence of E. coli bacteria.
Plainfield recommended several steps for any residents who wish to take extra caution, including flushing each water line by allowing both the hot and cold water to run for several minutes at each fixture, and disposing ice cubes.
Residents who want their water tested should contact the Will County Health Department.
