Plain clothes officers are patrolling the Trans Pennine Trail after a man exposed himself to people

Police are investigating following reports a man has been exposing himself to people on the Trans Pennine Trail.

In the last six weeks, there have been at least three incidents on the path between Broadbottom in Tameside and Simmondley near Glossop.

The most recent one happened on January 17.

A woman is understood to have been walking her dog on the trail between 8.45am and 9.15am when a man called out to her before exposing himself.

Derbyshire police there have been reports of similar incidents on January 3 at around 9.30am, and 12.30pm on December 19.

There have been no threats or injuries.

Officers are yet to confirm it is the same man involved, however they are considering it to be a possibility.

He is described as white and in his 20s or 30s.

He has a local accent and was wearing green or yellow workwear, or camouflage-type trousers and a black top.

The incidents have taken place between Broadbottom and Simmondley (Andrew Teebay/Liverpool Echo)

Patrols have been stepped up in the area, with plain clothed operations also taking place.

Sgt Anna Woodhouse from Derbyshire police said: "Local residents have understandably told us that they feel upset by these incidents, and concerned about walking along the trail.

"I would like to reassure residents that we take any incidents of this nature extremely seriously and our officers are doing all that we can to trace the man, or men, responsible.

"As part of that, our patrols have been increased in the local area to actively target the offender and to offer a visible presence.

"Please contact us if this has happened to you and you haven’t yet reported it, if you’ve witnessed an incident, noticed any suspicious behaviour or if you have any information which could help us to identify this man to get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Patrick Hayley via the force's website or social media.

People can also call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
