Things to keep the kids entertained in Belfast this half term

It seems like the kids were just back to school now and now have to try and find a way to entertain them again with the half-term closure.

If your little ones are looking for some way to burn off steam on their time off, there are plenty of activities happening around the city for them to enjoy.

From soft play, to escape rooms to exciting events, there is something for all ages this half-term.

Here are some ideas to entertain the kids this half term:

Belfast Zoo

With more than 110 species and more than 55 acres to explore, find everything you need to have a 'zooper' visit to Belfast Zoo.

Aside from being the perfect place for a family trip, the zoo also carries out vital conservation work, both in Northern Ireland and around the world.

Your little ones will never be bored looking for their favourite animals on site.

W5

Located at Queen's Quay, and after 20 years as a family favourite, W5 has been completely reimagined with a £4.5million investment.

It has eight new exhibition zones, with over 250 interactive exhibits for the whole family.

Running 13 – 17 February, Bright Sparks is W5’s unique and exciting week-long camp for inquisitive minds aged 11 to 14.

Lost City Adventure Golf

Located at Cityside Retail & Leisure Park and is for explorers and adventurers of all ages.

It has two 18-hole indoor adventure golf courses.

It's jungle-themed, open from 10am to 10pm every day.

Aunt Sandra's Candy Factory

Based in East Belfast on the Castlereagh Road and has been running since 1953 making handmade candies.

Running on 18 February, Aunt Sandra’s Candy Factory is running a open public session to either see one of their Candy shows/demonstration of how they make their traditional sweets or participate in a Chocolate Workshop to make your own chocolatey creations.

Bring your family down for a fun and sweet experience.

Andersonstown Indoor Aqua Park

Attractions here include the first-ever drop slide in Ireland and Surf Belfast, Northern Ireland's first indoor surf simulator.

The slides include:

  • Abyss – a drop slide where riders enter a capsule and prepare to be plunged into an abyss, with the floor disappearing below their feet.
  • Torrent –a slalom slide where riders in singles or pairs twist and turn on inflatable rings.
  • Vortex – a body slide racing riders to the bottom down twists and turns at high speeds

Prison Island

It's like an escape room and has 25 cells that require a combination of intellectual, technical and physical skills.

The Prison Island adventure is cooperative and you enter the cells together to pass the test.

This may be one for older children looking something new and exciting to try their hand at this half-term.

NI Science Festival

NI Science Festival returns to celebrate the science of you, the universe and everything in between.

The annual festival is a celebration of all things science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics and will return for a jam-packed 11 days of discovery from Thursday 16 – Sunday 26 February.

Over 200 events are planned across Northern Ireland covering everything from the natural world, our planet, and the vast expanse of space to technology, engineering, the mind and body, food and much more.

Colin Glen Forest Park

A giant adventure, in the heart of the Belfast Hills, open 10am to 5pm at weekends.

The woodlands area contains a state-of-the-art sports park; The Black Bull Run - Ireland’s first Alpine Coaster and River Rapid; Ireland’s longest Zipline; Ireland's only official Gruffalo Trail, and much more.

Soft-play areas

If your little ones fancy a bit of rumble and tumble, soft play areas are the perfect solution to burn off any of that extra energy while giving them a day out to remember.

With a number of great locations across the city and beyond, you have plenty of choices to find the right day out for your little ones.
