PizzaExpress launches vegan garlic spread in giant 2kg food fountain that's enough to dunk 100 Dough Balls

Garlic butter has its fans and now vegans can enjoy garlicky goodness too. Vegan garlic spread is on the menu now at UK’s first vegan PizzaExpress in Aldwych.

The popular pizza restaurant has added a plant-based version of its iconic garlic butter so those participating in Veganuary can savour fragrant garlic in dough balls and pizza crusts.

PizzaExpress launched the new vegan addition to the menu in style by serving a fragrant fountain of garlic spread at the vegan-only PizzaExpress pizzeria in Aldwych.

The table-top fountain held over 2kg of the tasty dip. It is estimated this is enough to dunk 100 of the legendary Dough Balls at PizzaExpress.

Although the plant-based garlic spread is available exclusively at the Aldwych pizzeria, it will be rolled out nationwide in over 360 restaurants from March.

The vegan garlic spread will be available alongside classic Dough Balls so fans can dunk the bread balls or pizza crusts for an extra hit of garlic.

Aldwych was the location for PizzaExpress to launch its first ever vegan restaurant. It serves exclusively plant-based dishes so that vegan, flexitarian, vegetarian or just anyone curious about vegan food can try a plant-based diet.

The menu features its largest ever vegan range. These tasty dishes include American Jack topped with smoky jackfruit 'pepperoni', tomato and its signature vegan mozzarella alternative. Another hot favourite is the Vegan Ad Astra topped with Quorn, sweet red peppers, Cajun spice, red onion, tomato, garlic oil and vegan mozzarella alternative.

Jane Treasure, Food and Beverage Director at PizzaExpress said: “With more and more people opting for vegan alternatives every year, we’re excited and proud to be able to announce the launch of our vegan garlic spread this Veganuary.

“Our pizzaiolos have been busy perfecting the recipe to ensure it’s every bit as good as the iconic original.

“This newest vegan option joins a range of other plant-based dishes on our menu, as we continue to innovate our food to ensure it is delicious and enjoyable for everyone.”
