Pizza takeaway in Briton Ferry in shock zero food hygiene rating

A pizza takeaway in Neath Port Talbot has received a zero food hygiene rating following an inspection.

Deano's Pizzeria in Briton Ferry has been handed the lowest score possible, meaning that urgent improvement is necessary.

Inspectors carried out a check at the takeaway on December 10, 2019.

There are a number of things that are taken into account when judging an establishment's hygiene rating.

These include how hygienically the food is handled (how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored) the condition of the building (cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities), and how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.

A Neath Port Talbot Council spokesman explained that the takeaway had since "made all the improvements they were asked to make" and that it had "applied for a re-rating re-assessment which will be carried out within three months of the application".

Deano's Pizzeria also confirmed that the current rating was accurate.

A spokesman for the takeaway said: "They [the inspectors] are coming back next week. It was all in the paper work."
