Pizza restaurant named 'better than Rudy's' to open first Manchester site

One of the world's most famous pizzerias is to open its first restaurant in Manchester city centre.

Pizzeria Da Michele, which started life in Naples more than a century ago, will be bringing its authentic pizzas to King Street.

Their Neapolitan pizzas have often been named the best on the planet, ranking even higher than Manchester's very own Rudy's.

Pizzeria Da Michele's fame rocketed when it starred in Elizabeth Gilbert's best-selling novel Eat, Pray, Love, later made into a film starring Julia Roberts.

The pizza recipe was honed 150 years ago and passed down through five generations, from the first restaurant Pizzeria Da Michele in 1906 to its now-worldwide success.

There are already two restaurants established in London, but this will be the first UK opening outside the capital.

The company will be taking over the old Zizzi site at the Grade II-listed 53 King Street.

The news of its arrival in the city was shared on Instagram by property company Barker Proudlove, who wrote: "THE BEST PIZZA IN THE WORLD is coming to Manchester!!!

"Barker Proudlove are proud to have completed a deal with @pizzeriadamichele to bring their world famous pizza to Manchester, in their new home at 53 King Street!

"We can’t wait to try it!!"
