A city centre restaurant is keen to do its bit to support NHS workers by keeping them well fed during the coronavirus crisis and it is asking for customer support.
Pizza Punks in Grey Street, Newcastle, is out to raise funds to help it make and deliver food to up to 2,500 staff at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in the coming weeks.
The restaurant will be doing what it does best - making speciality pizzas - to help local NHS workers to keep going as they work flat-out during a time the coronavirus crisis is set to peak.
In a post on its Facebook page it said: "We need your help, Punks, to support the incredible NHS staff at our local hospitals.
"We’re launching our NHS Pizza Punk fund and our ambition is to feed up to 2,500 NHS staff in the coming weeks."
It added: "To kick things off, we’ve teamed up with our amazing suppliers Continental Foods and Eco Runners: together we’ll be donating enough pizza to feed 500 people.
"With your help we would love to feed more."
The non-profit idea is asking people to make donations of £10, £20 or £50 to a fund set up via its online voucher store and the Pizza Punk team are volunteering their time and are keen to be busy in the kitchen.
All funds raised through donations will go directly towards the cost of making and delivering pizzas to the RVI.
