A Newcastle restaurant is celebrating after winning one of the titles at a top national awards.
The first ever Deliveroo Awards took place in London last week with 19 titles up for grabs and one of the hotly contested titles was Best Italian, which Pizza Punks was up for and won!
only opened in Newcastle last year, but after a very successful first year of business, the Grey Street restaurant runner-up at the inaugural Newcastle Loves awards in the Best Casual Dining category and has now taken home the Deliveroo accolade.
The award is for Pizza Punks as a whole as the company also has restaurants in Glasgow and Belfast.
The shortlist for the Deliveroo Awards was created after Deliveroo users cast over 70,000 votes for their favourite restaurants, resulting in more than 400 hopefuls being whittled down to 100 finalists throughout the UK.
The final decision was handed over to a panel of expert judges including the likes of famed Restaurant critic Giles Coren and TV presenter and cook Jasmine Hemsley.
Winners Pizza Punks opened their first site in Glasgow in 2016 with Belfast and Newcastle hot on their heels.
Beating off stiff competition from a host of London favourites the Glasgow born company showed that they are not afraid to stand up against the big boys.
Operations Manager, Louise McCabe was there to accept the award on the evening and said "We created Pizza Punks to give customers choice and flexibility. Our menu allows both Restaurant and delivery customers to create what they believe to be their perfect pizza from a choice of over 50 unlimited toppings.
This coupled with unique toppings created on-site, quality Italian produce and genuine warm and welcoming hospitality gives us something very special, our Pizza Revolution is only just beginning!”
