Pizza Express restaurant give couple on date dinner for free after they run out of cash

Pizza Express has been praised for a heart-warming act of generosity while a young couple were enjoying a date.

Staff at the restaurant came to the rescue of a 12-year-old and his girlfriend who realised they had spent all their money on a day out earlier.

The youngster got in touch with his mum, who had booked the restaurant for them, and she was put through to the manager at the chain, Mirror Online reports.

In a post on Facebook, Zoe Hayes said she was told by the manager that staff would deal with the bill for her son and his date.

Zoe wrote: "My son text me worrying and asking what they should do.

Zoe Hayes has thanked staff at the chain restaurant (Edinburgh Live WS)

"I rang him and asked to speak to the waiter/waitress to check if I would be able to pay over the phone with my card.

"It was passed to the manager who said we'll see what it comes to, and if it's not much over how much they have, then we can waive the extra.

"I thought that was very kind, but was anticipating a call later on to pay the difference.

"The manager then called back a few minutes later to say not to worry, they would cover it, so I figured he'd seen what they'd already ordered and decided it wouldn't be too much.

"He then told them to order what they wanted and they'd deal with the bill at the end. No longer worrying, they enjoyed a great meal."

She added: "So I was surprised when my son arrived home to find that the manager had waived the whole bill and told him to put away the money they did have. The bill was around £35.

"Such a kind gesture that made the difference between the day going wrong and them having a great experience.

"I'd like to say a big thank you to the staff and manager at Pizza Express, North Bridge, Edinburgh, for looking after them so well."
