Pizza Express looking to axe 75 restaurants and hundreds of jobs, reports say

Reports suggest Pizza Express is looking to shut 75 restaurants and axe hundreds of jobs.

Sky News is today (July 16) reporting the company is drawing up plans to close a number of its 470 sites in the UK as part of a a company voluntary arrangement (CVA).

Talks with landlords are expected as soon as next week, when the final number of restaurant closures look set to be determined.

Pizza Express has a number of sites in Nottinghamshire, including King Street, Goose Gate, Bridgford Road in West Bridgford and another restaurant in Giltbrook.

The restaurant group currently employs around 8,000 staff, upon its exponential growth from its founding in 1965.

Nottingham and the wider country has been hit by a spate of redundancies as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, particularly in the retail sector.

Just last week 4,000 jobs cuts were announced at Boots, including 20% of staff at the high street pharmacy's headquarters in Thane Road, just outside Beeston.

Just yesterday (July 15) Nottingham-based company Buzz Bingo also announced it would be slashing 570 jobs.

Buzz Bingo, formerly Gala Bingo, is headquartered in Castle Boulevard in the city.
