Pizza Express announces takeaway service for the first time since lockdown

Pizza Express has announced a takeaway service for the first time since lockdown.

The restaurant closed in March due to the coronavirus crisis but will now offer a click and collect service for customers following a successful delivery-only trial.

Pizza Express began the click and collect service this week in the same 13 London-based restaurants already open for delivery.

However, the pizzeria will consider plans for a further rollout in a "mission to reunite" customers with their local restaurant .

The new takeaway service will run with additional safety measures in place including limited menus, social distancing, protective screens and heightened cleaning, so your local pizzeria might look a little different to what your used to.

Pizza Express managing director Zoe Bowley said: "Our number one priority is to protect the safety and wellbeing of our teams and customers.

"Having undertaken a successful delivery-only trial in 13 of our restaurants, we’re pleased to be rolling this out further to click and collect customers in the same 13 restaurants only for the time being.

"We know that people have missed the taste of our freshly handmade pizzas and by launching the next stage of our trial, we hope to gradually and safely begin to bring the Pizza Express experience back to the UK."

Pizza Express is urging customers to keep up to date with its website and social feeds for the latest news on its reopening schedule.
