'Pizza and Peroni on Sunday?' Scots react to England's Euro 2020 triumph last night

Scots have given their reaction to England’s Euro 2020 triumph last night as the men’s national side made their way to a first major tournament final in 55 years.

Gareth Southgate’s men had to play 120 minutes to secure their place in the final, with Harry Kane scoring the rebound from a saved penalty in the first period of extra time against Denmark.

England now face their toughest test yet on Sunday, as they face an Italian side that have been praised for their free-flowing attacking football throughout the tournament.

Yesterday, it emerged that many Scotland fans had been trying to hunt down Danish flags and tops ahead of last night’s semi-final match.

And it was clear that many Scots on social media were gutted that the Scandinavian side were unable to get through to that final game at Wembley Stadium last night.

One wrote: “Denmark should be incredibly proud of making it as far as they did. Awesome for a wee nation of just five million.”

Another joked: “What is Danish for ‘may all of England step on Lego in the middle of the night?’”

Scots football fans have now turned to supporting the Italians for Sunday’s final, as the friendly footballing rivalry with the Auld Enemy continues.

One Scot said: “No catch me on Twitter till Italy give they fools a skudding. Can’t bare scrolling through ma feed the night.”

Another joked: “So, pizza and Peroni on Sunday?!”

One other wrote: “Italy, please do not f**k this up."

Many also commented on England’s inability to defeat Scotland in the group stage, after Steve Clarke’s men pulled off a stunning 0-0 draw at Wembley against the side.

Some reckon that Scotland should be given an honorary second place finish if England go on to lift the Henri Delaunay Trophy at the weekend.

One wrote: “If England wins, Scotland will be only team they didn’t defeat, so I’m taking that as a very dignified second place and I’ll hear nothing against it.”

But there were some Scots who heaped praise onto the England side following their triumph in London last night.

Players like Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane appear to have won the hearts of some north of the border.

One said: “As a half German/Scot with distant Danish ancestry, I have many reasons to dislike the England team at this tournament - but I really don’t. I really think they team Southgate has built is fantastic both on and off the pitch.”

Another comment read: “As someone who’s just married into an English family, I’m very happy for England with their performance in the Euros. Don’t understand why we can’t just be happy for them honestly!”

Scots will be able to tune into the Euro 2020 final on BBC and STV on Sunday, with the kick off taking place at 8pm that evening.
