Pixies are coming to Leeds as part of a massive UK tour

Alternative rock giants Pixies are heading to Leeds this year as part of a huge tour of the UK and Ireland.

The Boston band formed in 1986 and joined Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden as headliners at Leeds Festival in 2005.

They will be playing at O2 Academy in Leeds on Tuesday, September 17 on the ten-date tour.

Pixies are one of the most influential American bands of all time, with a host of big name acts citing them as an insparation.

The band broke up in 1993, but have retained popularity over the years.

Prior to his death, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain cited Pixies as a major influence, claiming that 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' - perhaps Nirvana's best-known hit - was created as an attempt to mimic the Pixies style.

Pixies song 'Where Is My Mind' was used in key scenes of the 1999 blockbuster Fight Club.
