Pixar: The background Easter egg featured in every single film

Some Pixar fans are only just discovering one of the studio’s most famous Easter eggs for the first time.

The animation studio is known for including background references to past and future films via repeated inclusion of characters, company names and logos.

But, the most prolific reference is the code “A113”, which features in every single one of Pixar’s films to date, from Toy Story (1995) right through to last year’s Soul.

The more dedicated Pixar fan will know exactly what this code is referencing – it’s the classroom number of several members of the studio’s original artists while attending California Institute of Arts.

This fact was pointed out on Reddit after someone wondered what the code meant. A casual Pixar fan responded to the revelation: “The people who find this sort of stuff are either really good at paying attention to detail or already knew what to look for going into the movie.

“I never noticed this though (I don’t think the average person would either).”

Some of the places to spot the code include on a license plate in Toy Story 2, a scuba diver’s camera in Finding Nemo and on the witch’s door in Brave (as Roman numerals).

It can also be seen on the license plate belonging to Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) in the Cars films.

Pixar Animation Studio, a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios since 2006, is based in Emeryville, California.

Its next film, Luca, will be released on 18 June.
