TEAM NEEDS

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Linebacker

The loss of Ryan Shazier has been a huge blow to the entire team. It is time for the Steelers to find their defensive signal-caller of the present and future. Being able to support in coverage will be even more imperative with division rivals running out extremely athletic tight ends.

Wide Receiver

The Steelers are no strangers to drafting wide receivers and they are no strangers to losing them. In recent years, Santonio Holmes, Mike Wallace, Emanuel Sanders, and now Antonio Brown have left the Steelers for seemingly greener pastures elsewhere. Ultimately, with such a deep pass-catching class I don’t foresee the Steelers reaching for a first-round wide receiver. Day 2 will likely be the sweet spot for the Steelers.

Secondary

In 2018 the Steelers reached for Terrell Edmunds at pick 2 overall. While his play improved throughout the season, the Steelers secondary is far from settled and leaves much to be desired. The Steelers would be prudent to bring in any help oppositive Joe Haden as soon as possible.

TOP TARGETS

Devin Bush | LB | Michigan

The Steelers still have plenty of holes on their defense, but fortifying their inside linebacker position would be a great jumpstart. Bush has the movement fluidity and athleticism to excel in coverage and would be an immediate impact to this defense.

Darrin Hall/Qadree Ollison | RB | Pittsburgh

Going back to the Pittsburgh well may not be a bad idea for the Steelers after they hit on James Conner. Either Hall or Ollison would provide depth and insurance behind Conner and Samuels.

Dexter Lawrence | DL | Clemson

Lawrence is a strong interior defensive lineman who has flashed starter level ability. At Clemon, Lawrence primarily played nose tackled for Clemson and could be projected as a zero tech in the Steelers 3-4 defense. As a former high school basketball player, Lawrence brings good explosion off the line and toughness to his play. His ability to be versatile may be his biggest asset while transitioning to the next level.

Ashton Dulin | WR | Malone

The 6-2, 210-pound WR from Division II led all of NCAA football in All-purpose yards and was 2nd in all-purpose yards per game. In 2018, he caught 61 passes for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns and finished with 1,947 all-purpose yards and 15 total touchdowns. Dulin finished his college career as Malone’s career leader in receptions (189), receiving yards (3,188) and all-purpose yards (5,455). Outside of the production, Dulin is a size-speed specimen and would be a welcome addition to the Steelers vertical passing attack.

Foster Moreau | TE | LSU

This pick is pure projection based, but Moreau is a football player I want to bet on. Moreau obliterated the combine testing drills and interviewed very well with NFL teams. The Steelers would be wise to invest in Moreau and allow him to simmer behind Vance McDonald for a year or two.
