White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper will miss the three-game series against the Detroit Tigers that begins Monday night as he is scheduled to undergo an arthroscopic left knee procedure Tuesday. Assistant pitching coach Curt Hasler will fill in for Cooper, while minor-league catching coordinator John Orton will oversee the bullpen.
Cooper, 64, in his 18th full season as the Sox pitching coach, is expected to rejoin the club on Friday when the team opens a scheduled three-game series against the Cardinals.
Robert out of lineup for first time
Rookie center fielder Luis Robert was not in the lineup for the first time this season for the Sox game against the Tigers Monday. It was not immediately known why, but manager Rick Renteria has been giving players occasional rests in the first two weeks of the shortened season.
Leury Garcia was set to start in center field.
Robert hit safely in 16 of his first 19 games but is 3-for-19 with a double in his last five games.
