Pitbull and BST festival appeal for bald cap counters for world record attempt

Latin hip hop star Pitbull and London festival British Summer Time (BST) have appealed for volunteers to count bald caps in the crowd at the star’s performance as they attempt a world record.

The gig in Hyde Park on Friday July 10 will see fans attempt to break the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing bald caps.

A joint Instagram post from the festival and the singer, 45, whose real name is Armando Perez, read: “In case you missed it, we’re going for a Guinness World Records title with Mr Worldwide, @pitbull and we need a squad of legendary volunteers to help make it official.

“Your mission (should you choose to accept it), count the shiny-headed Bald-es in the crowd and help us make history.”

The festival says non-ticket holders are able to sign up, along with those who already have a ticket, adding it needs “legends who can count” and that volunteers will be able to stay and watch the show.

Volunteers can sign up via a link on the BST website.

The plan for the world record attempt came after BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James texted the singer with the idea.

Pitbull appeared to have replied to his text and said that he would have a member of his team reach out.

In recent years a trend has started at Pitbull’s concerts which has seen fans dress up as him, sporting suits, aviator glasses and a bald cap.

The trend has gone viral, with videos of audience-packed arenas full of bald-cap wearing fans singing his songs back at him.

The rapper is among a number of artists that will perform at the London festival this summer along with Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi, US band Maroon 5 and folk pop group Mumford And Sons.

He is best known for the songs Fireball, Timber, Time Of Our Lives, On the Floor, Give Me Everything, Feel This Moment and Don’t Stop The Party.
