A man has allegedly shot and killed three pit bull dogs with a crossbow after the pack mauled his golden retriever in Townsville.
Police say the man armed himself and fired arrows at the pit bulls after they attacked and killed his dog at a Heatley property about 2am on Saturday.
Two of the pit bulls died immediately and the third sometime later.
It's understood the man also suffered some wounds inflicted by the dogs.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing and officers say it's too soon to say if any charges might be laid.
