Pistons' Reggie Jackson has platelet-rich plasma remedy for thumb, too

Since treatment for left knee tendinitis will keep him out of the Detroit Pistons lineup for 6-to-8 weeks, Reggie Jackson decided to address a lingering issue with his right thumb.

Jackson received a platelet-rich plasma injection to his thumb _ as well as one to his left knee _ in New York on Monday morning.

Jackson appears optimistic after knee procedure.

"He's had that for a long time and so it was bothering him," Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said before Monday's preseason game against the San Antonio Spurs (7:30, streaming at Pistons.com).

"So a really good thought is let's take a look at it, so they MRI'd it and he had a little tear in the ulnar ligament so why not get it done now?

"I don't think that one was severe enough that he would have done it and sat out for 6-to-8 weeks, but if he was going to sit out 6-to-8 weeks anyway, he might as well come back feeling better."

Jackson posted a video a video posted a video to Instagram of himself on crutches, shortly following the procedures.

He will be on crutches for 3-to-7 days.

Van Gundy's thought process is that Jackson, the team's leading scorer last season, will miss 15-to-20 games.
