Pistons pumped for first playoff game at Little Caesars Arena: 'That's dope'

Dwane Casey engaged in a little daydreaming while speaking to reporters at Little Caesars Arena on Friday.

The first-year Pistons coach pointed up toward the red seats in the upper bowl and made a declaration.

"Before I leave, those top rows at LCA will be filled," Casey said.

That's a tall order considering the Pistons finished last in the NBA when it comes to percentage of seats sold in one of the largest arenas in the league.

The Pistons are down 2-0 against the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in the Pistons' second postseason appearance in a decade.

The Pistons have lost 12 playoff games in a row, one shy of tying an NBA record held by the 2001-12 Knicks.

But early word is the Pistons are expecting a good crowd for Game 3 on Saturday night in the first playoff game at the new arena.

The Red Wings have missed the playoffs in the past three seasons, including the two seasons they've played at LCA, which opened in fall of 2017.

Pistons point guard Reggie Jackson was surprised to hear Saturday's game will be the first playoff game for LCA.

"That's dope, that's real cool," Jackson said. "I'm just excited to have another game."

The Bucks have won the first two games by an average of 28 points.

The Pistons took a one-point lead into halftime of Game 2 on Wednesday night before scoring just 17 points in the third quarter on the way to a 120-99 loss.

Pistons star Blake Griffin has missed the first two games with a sore left knee and there was no change in his status as of early Friday evening.

Casey denied the Pistons are already looking to the offseason, happy to have accomplished the goal of reaching the playoffs.

But considering it's the first playoff game at LCA, Casey expects a good effort.

"We have great fans here," Casey said. "We need all the help we can get to give our guys energy and I thought we had it in the second quarter (of Game 2). That sort of been our growth pattern this year this season _ sustain focus, sustain toughness. We got to sustain it.

"There is a significance coming here playing, having the first game here in a playoff situation."
