Pistons moving on from Caldwell-Pope, pick up Bradley for Morris

One of the best two-way players in the league is headed to the Detroit Pistons, and small forward Marcus Morris is headed to Boston.

It also means free agent Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is on his way out of Detroit.

The Pistons have agreed to trade Morris to the Boston Celtics for Avery Bradley, the Pistons announced Friday. The Pistons will receive a 2019 second-round pick in the deal.

Bradley is coming off the best season of his seven-year career.

The Pistons also rescinded their $5.5 million qualifying offer to Caldwell-Pope, 24, making him an unrestricted free agent.

A person with firsthand knowledge told the Free Press: "We made this deal instead of (re-signing) Caldwell-Pope. We have 12 guys. Looking to finish out the roster with two more."

Bradley, 26, averaged 16.2 points per game and shot 39 percent from 3-point range for the Celtics, who reached the Eastern Conference finals last season. He will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Bradley is currently available for a contract extension, but that's unlikely, although the Pistons are interested in a long-term engagement.

"He won't extend _ money is too low. ... We hope it's long-term but even if he leaves we'll have had a year to see (rookie Luke) Kennard and we'll maintain financial flexibility," the person with knowledge said.

Boston was looking to shed salary to open enough space to give free-agent signee Gordon Hayward a max contract. Bradley will make $8.8 million next season. Morris will make $5 million next season and $5.4 million in 2018-19.

ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report the trade.
