Pistons keep Trae Young in check, coast to 136-103 win against Hawks

ATLANTA _ The tanking is on hold.

Derrick Rose extended his streak of scoring 20-plus points with 27 points and nine assists to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 136-103 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night.

The Pistons shot 59.3% at State Farm Arena as they won their second straight road game after losing 12 of 15 to give the tanking crowd hope the team could limp to a bottom-3 finish.

But at 16-27, the Pistons are ninth in the Eastern Conference, three games behind the Brooklyn Nets for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Rose led six Pistons in double figures as the team had 31 assists on 51 made baskets.

Svi Mykhailiuk scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting. He was 5 for 7 from 3-point range.

Andre Drummond, who was the subject of trade talks between the Pistons and Hawks, finished with 16 points, 17 rebounds and five steals.

Rookie Sekou Doumbouya had his worst shooting game since he was inserted into the starting lineup, going 1 for 8 from the field in scoring four points.

The Pistons were 15 for 32 from 3-point range.

Hawks second-year standout Trae Young was held to 16 points on 6-of-16 shooting. Bruce Brown was the primary defender. Young torched the Pistons for 38 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in the home opener at Little Caesars Arena.

John Collins led the Hawks (10-33) with 20 points.

The Pistons dominated the first half, leading by 20 points before settling for 71-55 halftime lead.

Rose scored or assisted on 14 of the Pistons first 18 points in leading his team to an early six-point lead. He drew gasps when he led a break and finished it when he bounced the ball off the backboard, leading to a Drummond dunk.

Rose finished with 12 points and three assists in the first half.

Mykhailiuk continued his hot shooting by scoring 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range in the first half.

The Pistons were without Blake Griffin (knee), Reggie Jackson (back) and Luke Kennard (both knees).

The Hawks were without rotation players Alex Len (lower back) and Jabari Parker (right shoulder).
