Pistons get optimistic news on Luke Kennard's injured shoulder

DETROIT _ Recovery from a shoulder sprain can take six to eight weeks.

It appears Luke Kennard could return to the playing floor under a lesser timetable.

The Detroit Pistons announced Friday that an MRI revealed an AC joint sprain of Kennard's right shoulder.

He will be re-evaluated in two weeks after suffering the injury in the first half of Thursday night's 110-103 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers at Little Caesars Arena.

He was the victim of a hard screen when he was having his most effective offensive stretch of the young season, scoring eight points in 10 minutes on 4-for-4 shooting.

He wore a sling following the game.

The timetable appears to be optimistic.

"What you expected," Pistons coach Dwane Casey told reporters after practice. "It's unfortunate because he had such a good game going last night. It was one of the best games he's played this year and I was really excited for him and then he gets this shoulder situation, but that's part of the NBA.

"I'm sure he'll work his butt off to bounce back and get back into it because that was a great step for him last night."

The Pistons have several options to weather his absence _ including more time for Glenn Robinson III or more two point guard lineups with Reggie Jackson and Ish Smith.

The Pistons (4-0) are off to their best start since the 2008-09 season.
