Pistons finish road trip on high note with win vs. Grizzlies

MEMPHIS, Tenn. _ Luke Kennard was open when Blake Griffin found him in the right corner late in the fourth quarter Wednesday night at FedEx Forum.

But the Detroit Pistons' second-year shooting guard hesitated, drove into the paint and tried to thread a pass to Griffin in traffic.

The near-turnover prompted an animated Dwane Casey to yell, "Shoot it!"

The first-year Pistons coach added a shooting motion for emphasis.

Kennard heard him.

Kennard nailed 3-pointers on the next two possessions, which fueled a 13-0 run, to propel the Pistons to a 101-94 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies to snap a three-game losing skid.

Griffin scored 26 points, grabbed eight rebounds and added seven assists for the Pistons (17-19), who were able the salvage the last game of the four-game trip.

Reggie Jackson scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added five assists. He was 4 for 8 from 3-point range and came up with a key blocked shot late in the game.

The Pistons were 16 for 40 from behind the arc.

Former Michigan State standout Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies (18-19).

Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley was held scoreless on 0 for 8 shooting.

After allowing the Grizzlies to shoot 57.5 percent in the first half to trail 55-51, the Pistons surged behind a great defensive third quarter.

They held the Grizzlies scoreless for the first 5:15 of the third quarter, with a Garrett Temple free throw breaking the Pistons' 7-0 run to start the half.

The Pistons defensive prowess continued in the quarter as they held the Grizzlies to 12 points in the third, taking a 72-67 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Pistons held the Grizzlies to 17.6 percent shooting in the third quarter, a far cry from the defensive no-shows at Indiana and Milwaukee during this trip.

After missing Monday night's blowout loss at Milwaukee with a left thigh contusion, forward Stanley Johnson was back in the lineup _ although he was wearing a black patch over the affected area.

He was able to get a defensive rebound and take it all the way to the rim for a nice finish early in his run.

But in nearly six minutes, he was minus-10 in the second quarter.

Backup center Zaza Pachulia (right leg contusion) missed his second straight game.
