DETROIT _ This is what tanking looks like.
In the Detroit Pistons' first game at Little Caesars Arena after trading Andre Drummond before Thursday's deadline, the home crowd witnessed a 95-92 loss to the New York Knicks on Saturday night.
With the Pistons missing the league's best rebounder, the Knicks were able to create 17 second-chance points, which includes a crucial late-game possession when the Pistons yielded two offensive rebounds.
The Pistons paid for the lapses when Julius Randle's layup with 13.5 seconds left gave the Knicks a 93-89 lead.
The Pistons answered with three points from Christian Wood with 8.6 seconds left.
Reggie Bullock's two free throws following the inbounds gave the Knicks a 95-92 lead with 7.3 seconds left.
But Reggie Jackson missed a 3-pointer that would have tied it at the final horn.
Jackson led the Pistons (19-36) with 20 points and Wood added 17 points.
Randle led the Knicks (17-36) with 17.
The Drummond trade signals a new direction for the franchise. The move was made to free up cap space, but the team will be worse in the long run.
Thon Maker missed two free throws that would have given the Pistons a two-point lead with 1:47 left.
The newest Pistons _ Brandon Knight and John Henson _ were in uniform, although Knight was unavailable with left knee soreness.
But after a quick walkthrough, Casey put Henson into the rotation and received pleasant results.
Henson scored a season-high 12 points on 6-for-6 shooting.
He had solid chemistry with Jackson, who delivered a season-high nine assists.
