Pistons end 7-game losing streak by beating Hawks, 105-91

ATLANTA _ A game against one of the league's worst teams was exactly what the Detroit Pistons needed.

Two nights after their worst performance of the season, the Pistons cruised to a 105-91 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night at Philips Arena, ending a seven-game losing skid.

A sparse crowd watched the Pistons (15-13) hold the Hawks (6-22) to 60 points after yielding a 31-point first quarter.

Throw in a 3-point barrage (13 for 30) and the Pistons were able to taste victory for the first time this month.

Pistons center Andre Drummond fell one assist short of his first career triple-double (12 points, 19 rebounds, career-high nine assists) and Avery Bradley scored 18 points and Tobias Harris added 19 points.

Langston Galloway ignited the Pistons with 17 points on 5 for 8 shooting from 3-point range in a game his team once led by 24 points.

After the morning shoot-around, Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy was asked does he spend more time on game plans when his team his struggling.

Not really, but Van Gundy did say he changes his approach.

"It's a little harder to coach when you're struggling," Van Gundy said. "When the season's beating them up a bit, I can't be the guy beating them up."

Two quick fouls after only two minutes from point guard Ish Smith forced Van Gundy to unveil a lineup that has yet to be seen this year.

Van Gundy started the second quarter with Luke Kennard, Stanley Johnson, Eric Moreland and Anthony Tolliver with Galloway at point guard.

Galloway is the third point guard behind Smith and Reggie Jackson and is rarely used in that role.

But the unit fueled an 8-0 run to start the second quarter, giving the Pistons a 38-31 lead.

Johnson was removed from the starting lineup before Tuesday night's loss, but when Kennard committed an error late in the first quarter, Van Gundy stormed to the end of bench and called for Johnson.

His floater from 13 feet accounted for the last basket of the 8-0 run.

Tolliver suffered a broken nose in Tuesday night's loss to the Denver Nuggets, but he was fitted with a mask and scored six points in 15 minutes.
