The Detroit Pistons are losing a member of their front office.
Assistant general manager Brian Wright is taking the same position with the San Antonio Spurs, a person with firsthand knowledge of the situation told the Free Press Wednesday morning.
Wright, 34, was the assistant GM in charge of collegiate scouting and has run the past two NBA drafts for the Pistons. The drafts appear to have been successful, with 2015 first-round pick Stanley Johnson, in particular, showing potential. Wright's duties will be similar with the Spurs, who might be the gold standard when it comes to professional sports organizations. Wright likely will have more of a hand in scouting professionals for free agency and trades for the Spurs, too.
Wright was hired by Pistons president/coach Stan Van Gundy in the summer of 2014, shortly after Van Gundy took over. He came from the Orlando Magic, where he spent eight seasons. Wright was the Magic's director of college scouting during his final season.
