Pistons' Derrick Rose fined $25,000 for throwing pen toward crowd

DETROIT _ With the Detroit Pistons headed to another loss, Derrick Rose let his frustrations boil to the surface.

They cost him $25,000.

The NBA announced Tuesday afternoon Rose was fined for throwing a pen into the stands at Little Caesars Arena in the final moments of Monday night's 117-110 overtime loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Pelicans forward Nicolo Melli made a long jumper to give his team a 113-107 lead with 37 seconds left in overtime.

Pistons coach Dwane Casey called timeout and Rose slowly walked to the bench.

Pistons assistant coach Sean Sweeney patted Rose in the chest, but Rose reached down for a pen and tossed it to the other side of the court.

Moments before Melli's basket, Rose had committed a turnover.

The Pistons (14-27) have lost 13 of 15.
