Pistons agree to a deal with Markieff Morris, twin of ex-Piston Marcus

The Detroit Pistons have agreed to a two-year deal with forward Markieff Morris, multiple sources tell the Free Press.

Morris is the twin brother of Marcus Morris, who played with the Pistons from 2015-17.

Markieff, who turns 30 in early September, averaged 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds in 58 games last season with the Wizards and Thunder. The 6-foot-10 power forward is a career 33.8% 3-point shooter and 44.9% shooter from the field. He struggled with a neck injury last season.

The Pistons will sign Morris with their $3.6 million bi-annual exemption, a source told the Free Press.

The Athletic's Shams Charania was first to report the deal.

Detroit has added point guards Derrick Rose and Tim Frazier in free agency. The Pistons also traded for forward Tony Snell the night before the NBA draft.

The Pistons roster stands at 14. The Pistons could add one more player, likely a traditional center. They can only use a veteran minimum salary slot.

Morris gives the Pistons insurance in case Thon Maker can't make the necessary steps forward to earn consistent playing time with what looks to be a deeper roster.
