KALYAN: As part of an important work, about 196 villages and padas of Bhiwandi rural in Thane District, where water has not yet reached through taps for many years, pipelines laying work has been started under "Har Ghar Nal se Jal" scheme of Central Government on Saturday.
The Bhoomipujan of the work was done on Saturday by Union Panchayat Raj Minister Kapil Patil.
Once a pipeline is installed, it will benefit lakhs of women in the rural areas, who for many years used to go far away to fetch water for their homes with pots on their heads.
Patil said the work is happening at a project cost of Rs 381 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission of "Har Ghar Nal Se Jal" scheme, which was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide tap water to every household in the rural areas.
To sanction funds for water supply schemes in Bhiwandi taluka for the first time, Patil thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Water Power Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and state water supply minister Gulabrao Patil.
Bhoomipujan for pipeline installation on Saturday was held at Kewanidive, Kopar, Vadunavghar, Junandurkhi, Kambe, Khoni, Tembhivali, Ambadi and Kawad.
