Piped drinking water in every UP home by 2024: CM Yogi Adityanath

LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath said that the state government will provide piped drinking water to every household in the state under the Jal Jeevan Mission by 2024.

He directed the officials to complete the drinking water projects in Bundelkhand and Vindhya within the stipulated period. He said that he will visit Bundelkhand soon to review the progress of the drinking water project.

The CM was holding a review meeting of the Namami Gange and rural water supply department on Wednesday. He said that the Jal Shakti minister and the minister of state, departmental officials and senior engineers of Jal Nigam will start a physical review of the projects in Bundelkhand and Vindhya from this week. The water supply should be monitored online to avoid any inconvenience to people. He also directed to provide clean drinking water in anganwadi centres and government aided schools.

More and more houses should get piped water supply within the set time frame, he said, adding that the Arjun Sahayak Project has become a boon for Bundelkhand. He said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government has completed the irrigation and drinking water projects that were pending for more than 40 years in five years' time.

He also directed to launch awareness programmes for water conservation and management, specially in the regions affected with fluoride and arsenic content in water and encephalitis. Jal Samitis created at gram panchayat level should be activated, he said.
