The Pink Moon which is set to grace Irish skies on Friday will in fact appear orange.
The moon, which is named after pink spring blossoms, will peak just after midday on Friday.
But it will only be visible on Friday night in Ireland and will be a pale shade of orange.
Super snow moon Ireland 2019: How to see the brightest moon of the year
The colour of the moon depends on its position, the stage of its cycle, and atmospheric changes including Rayleigh scattering, the Irish Independent reports.
Rayleigh scattering causes the daytime sky to look blue and sunsets to look red.
This will also cause Friday’s moon to look orange to those on the ground.
It also caused the Blood Moon to appear red in the night sky on January this year.
The moon got its red hue as sunlight was filtered as it passed through the Earth's atmosphere, removing most of the blue light.
