Pingpong clubs coming to Chicago

Nov. 16--A British table tennis club plans to open a location in Chicago in 2016.

"Bounce Chicago, the first of several planned U.S. venues, will open in the spring of 2016," says the website of Bounce Ping Pong.

Bounce said it "combines three elements of hospitality: bar, restaurant and entertainment activity" and takes "the humble ping pong table from the back corner of a bar to become the main offering of the venue." It said it has hosted games for Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey, among others.

Two public notices from the city of Chicago are in the doorway at 230 N. Clark St., both dated Nov. 3. One is the notice of the filing of an application to sell liquor, and the second is a filing of an application for a "public place of amusement license."

Also, Bounce co-founder Adam Breeden on Nov. 10 tweeted about his Chicago plans: "Spending some time in Chicago this week, lots of exciting @Bouncepingpong plans in the pipeline, keeping us very busy."

Bounce, launched in 2012, has two locations in London, according to its website.

Bounce didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

SPiN, another table tennis nightlife spot, co-owned by actress Susan Sarandon, is scheduled to open next year at a retail location in Marina City, 344 N. State St.
