Ping-pong, anyone?

Lifts nose momentarily from grindstone. Sips coffee.

By this point on a Saturday the machinery of the Observer – fuelled exclusively on caffeine and swearing - is usually pounding away vigorously. Today, in the words of one sub, is turning out to be a 'right scunner'. Ok, we here on the blog confess to not knowing exactly what that means. But we know it is very unlike a walk in the park on an unseasonably sunny day.

The news front has seen especially fierce action in the last couple of days with trench warfare over the government's Terror Bill. At least some resolution had emerged by press day - and naturally we will have some daring exclusive angles to bring you. The ping-pong match between Commons and Lords was only just reaching its conclusion yesterday while we were talking about leader ideas for the comment pages, making post-match analysis a little tricky. Those of us who had to watch from the newsroom are quite jealous of the reporting team, who got front row tickets in the House. We look forward to reading a bit of that.

Your humble blogger, meanwhile, had to take some time out of a hectic morning for a photo-shoot. The pics might be running alongside a rather, er…personal piece for tomorrow's comment pages. Be nice when you read it, eh?

Presses nose diligently back to grindstone.
