Pupils and staff at Pinewood in Blackburn have been making the most of celebrations to say a fond farewell to the school’s primary sevens.
The pupils should have been enjoying camp, graduation and a prom night, but unfortunately lockdown meant all this had to be cancelled.
But to make sure the children enjoyed a proper send-off, the school organised a special virtual prom for them.
Teacher Kirsty Reid explained: “To say that 2020 has not gone as planned is a pretty big understatement.
“Senior’s celebrations at Pinewood would have included camp, graduation and a Prom night. We had already organised and started making props for our ‘Night at the Movies’ prom.
“We were very sad that we could not meet up and celebrate together, but the next best thing was to have a virtual prom.
“We would all celebrate on the same day and at the same time in our own homes and share pictures and videos of us having fun on the school blog.
“We were each delivered a prom pack so that we could plan our party night. We had to plan food, a playlist, decorations and our outfits.
“The adults in our team brought the leavers a party bag before the event which contained a drink, snacks and decorations.
“We were very lucky that our usual DJ, Mike Newlands, did a pre-recorded set for us so that we could have a disco at home. It was very kind of him.
“We all had a great night. Some of our teachers joined in with their families and sent pictures too.
“We had a very special message for our leavers at the end from the adults in Pinewood wishing them all the best for their new chapters. It was the best virtual prom ever!”
