Pimp your pencil skirt

News just in from haute couture: it is time to pimp your pencil skirt. Ladies, we have ourselves a trend, because the luxe pencil skirt is everywhere.

To qualify as luxe, a pencil skirt needs to fit like a glove – no too-tight stretch, no frumpy bagging – and to be made out of an upscale fabric. This being haute couture, the catwalk versions are seriously posh: at Dior, what looked like crocodile skin was actually individual squares of ostrich skin, stitched on to an organdy base, while Giambattista Valli did cocktail skirts in delicate, hand-cut lace.

Happily, back-in-the-real-world labels are all over the luxe pencil trend already, and the front row boasts some decent lace and print versions to prove it.
Bespoke corsetted ballgowns aren't everyone's thing, so it's nice to know that couture is rocking one trend we can all get on board with.
